UMBC comes into the tournament at 20-23, 11-9 AE after closing out the regular season with a walk-off win against Stony Brook on the last day of the season. Collin Stack provided the heroics with a double in the tenth that scored Connor Staskey all the way from first.

UMBC baseball racked up the awards on Tuesday night at the annual postseason banquet. Freshman Christian Torres (Miami, Fla./Miami Senior) was named America East Rookie of the Year, after hitting just south of .400 during the conference season.

UMBC baseball picked up their first America East Tournament victory since 2015 in a 3-2 triumph over Stony Brook on Friday. The Retrievers got a big contribution from Andrew Casali (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) with three hits and a big home run.

Matt Chanin went the distance, striking out a season best eight batters as UMBC earned a spot in the championship game with a 9-0 win against Albany on Saturday. The Retrievers put up four runs in the first and five in the third in the win.

UMBC baseball fell behind early, but earned their first America East Championship with 2-1 walk-off win against Maine on Sunday. Zack Bright (Farifax Station, Va./WT Woodson) drew a four-pitch walk with the bases loaded in the tenth to give UMBC their first America East title.

UMBC Baseball Held an Open Practice on Thursday at Wake Forest

UMBC baseball heads to North Carolina for the NCAA Tournament this weekend, just days after winning their first America East title in program history. The Winston-Salem Regional will feature host Wake Forest as the top seed, as well as Maryland and West Virginia.

The number four seed UMBC baseball team dropped their opening game in the Winston-Salem regional, 11-3, to host and number one seed Wake Forest on Friday night at David F. Couch Ballpark.

The UMBC baseball team’s championship season came to an end on Saturday afternoon, as they were eliminated by Maryland (38-22) from the Winston-Salem Regional after dropping the game, 16-1, at David F. Couch Ballpark.

UMBC freshman third baseman Christian Torres (Miami, Fla./Miami Senior) was named to the Freshman All-America Team by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, the media outlet announced on Wednesday.

Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) and Christian Torres (Miami, Fla./Miami Senior) added another award to the resume, as they were named to the ABCA (American Baseball Coaches Association)/Rawlings All-East Region Second Team on Wednesday.

Former UMBC standout pitcher Michael Austin (Eldersburg, Md./Bethune-Cookman) signed a free agent contract with the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday, June 20. Austin becomes the second player in as many years to sign a pro contract. He is the 18th Retriever in program history to compete professionally.

Former UMBC pitcher Zach Clark, ’06 was named to the All-Time Bowie Baysox team, announced earlier this month. Clark played at UMBC from 2002-06 and eventually made his way to the majors, pitching for the Baltimore Orioles.

Former UMBC catcher Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) has signed a pro contract with the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the American Association, an independent baseball league. Dolshun becomes the second Retriever to sign a pro contract in the past month, joining Michael Austin who is in the Kansas City Royals organization playing for the AZL Royals.

UMBC baseball redshirt sophomore Stephen Schoch (Laurel, Md./Appalachian State) has been called up to join the Cotuit Kettleers of the prestigious Cape Cod League, it was announced last week. Schoch sat out this past spring after transferring from Appalachian State.

UMBC baseball head coach Bob Mumma announced the promotion of pitching coach/recruiting coordinator Liam Bowen to associate head coach on Thursday, August 30. Both Bowen and Mumma will enter their seventh seasons in the dugout at UMBC, coming off a year that saw the Retrievers win their first America East Championship in program history.

UMBC baseball head coach Bob Mumma announced a 54 game-slate for the reigning America East Champions. The Retrievers will play 27 games at home, starting with a three-day tournament against Mount St. Mary’s and Hofstra. UMBC will look to defend their America East crown when conference play kicks off in mid-March.

UMBC baseball opens the season against Penn State in Cary, N.C. to begin their 31st season in Division I on Friday afternoon. The Retrievers look to defend their America East Conference title and continue the success that the team has had in recent years as they try to win back-to-back championships under seventh-year head coach Bob Mumma.
